Effective Advice from an Orthodontist in Caring for Your Children’s Teeth

It’s important for children to get introduced to good oral hygiene as early as possible. As their parent, you have a large role to play in your children’s awareness of the need for proper oral hygiene. That’s why you need to model good behavior early on. Consider the following advice offered by an orthodontist.

Use Fluoride Early

Fluoride is an element that occurs naturally in many foods and water and it plays an important role in teeth health. That’s because it helps prevent tooth decay by making teeth more resistant to acid attacks caused by sugars and bacteria in the mouth. There are many ways you can help your child get more fluoride, and probably the easiest is to use fluoride toothpaste.

Start when they are less than 3 years old. Only use a pea size amount because children at this age have a tendency to swallow, rather than spit the toothpaste out. Mouthwash with fluoride can also be helpful in preventing cavities, but should only be used if recommended by an orthodontist. Read more on this article:
